TV Review: Sleepy Hollow Pilot

I was very excited for this show and I was not let down.  I must say, the best part was Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane.

In a few words: This is a great pilot that will appeal to fans of Haven and Supernatural with a focus on the apocalypse and classic American mythology.

The pace was pretty spot on.  It also wasn't over loaded with crap like the preview made it look.  The mythology isn't too dense and is actually told rather linearly.  It's nothing super original, but I like that about it as well.  It doesn't need to recreate itself, only to build off of pre-conceived notions, making the show deep before you even dive in.

The characters are also immediately likeable.  Ichabod, of course, is awesome (and kinda cute) and funny.  He doesn't understand the concept of Starbucks or locks on car doors.  He knows what he's there for, though, so it doesn't get in his way that it's been a long long time since he "died".  Abbie is also very easy to like right off the bat.  She's got an easy going relationship with the sheriff and goes with her gut.  She doesn't quite believe Ichabod, but she's also not believing that he's insane.  She's not too ready to jump on the Apocalypse train, but she's not hesitant to do what needs to be done.  I love that about her because that's, honestly, how someone would probably react to all this spooky stuff.

So far this show has me waiting for next weeks installment.  I'm not going to rush to watch the episodes, but I'm also going to take my time and enjoy them because this show deserves it.
