Book Review: Fallen

I've read this book before, about three years ago, but I really wanted to give it another try for various reasons.  I'm sooo glad I did.  As often happens, when you go back into a book with a clear mind and a desire to like the book, you will.  In fact, knowing the story from the first time I read it made it more enjoyable.  Near the end it gets a little confusing, so having it all straight saved me some headache.

The pace isn't too slow, but it's not flash-bang fast either.  There isn't a lot of originality to the events, nor does the scenery really change.  It's another of those boarding-school books, but this one has a twist.  It's a darker place that I really enjoyed regardless of the clichés.

The characters, too, aren't that unique at the first glimpse.  They're written with a deft hand that knows its way around these people and you can't help but start to like them.  Luce is a good heroine, not too strong, but also not ready to be saved every second.  She recognizes that she's at fault for some of the stuff, too, which we don't often see.  Daniel is cute, but we don't get to know him well enough, yet, and while I like him, I'm waiting for a deeper look into him.  All the supporting characters were strong and I liked them all, especially Arriane, who I think everyone will love.

The world isn't too deep... yet.  From Luce's perspective we're as lost to this world of (MILD SPOILER) angels as she is, but I assume that will be rectified soon.

Rating: 3 1/2 stars
