Star Trek Update (7)

It's been a while hasn't it?  I'm just going to touch on the episodes I really enjoyed.  So, here you go!

214 "Wolf in the Fold"
Poor Scotty!  It was fun to see him as the center of attention for once, rather than a background character.

215 "The Trouble with Tribbles"
Enough said.  No, really, I want a Tribble now.  I just won't feed it.

216 "The Gamers of Triskelion"
An interesting take on the idea of games, and particularly interesting now with a society so involved in video games.

217 "A Piece of the Action"
A really fun episode.  Loved to see everyone dressed up like they're from the 20s and speak "gangster" while they were at it.

219 "A Private Little War"
This was one of those episodes that really makes you think.  As I've said before, one of the things I really adore about this show.

220 "Return to Tomorrow"
A strange, but sweet, tale of alien romance.

221 "Patterns of Force"
My favorite of this batch of episodes.  Very cool to see a "Nazi" world, and interesting.  Another that really makes you think.  Also, extremely well written, in my opinion.

222 "By Any Other Name"
A good story.  I thought it was a little long, but it kept me interested for a long time.  Also a more serious episode, something I feel this series lacks.

Star Trek Update (6)

Here's an update on where I am with Star Trek.  I've slowed down a bit and my days are getting busier, so the amount of tv I watch is going to suffer.  Expect these updates to start coming once a month and have fewer episodes.

212 "The Deadly Years"
One of those awkward episodes where you cringe and cross your fingers for it to be over.

213 "Obsession"
I liked the peek into Kirk's past but was disappointed that his crew didn't want to trust him.

214 "Wolf in the Fold"
I really liked this episode.  It kept me guessing and was an intricate little murder mystery.  Also, poor Scotty.

215 "The Trouble with Tribbles"
I want a Tribble.  This episode is infamous in my house.  One you really should watch, though, even if you're not a big fan of the show.

216 "The Gamesters of Triskelion"
A decent episode with a good idea that I think could be pretty relatable in todays society of video games.

217 "A Piece of the Action"
This was another fun one.  I really enjoyed the turn of events and the "gangsta" theme.  Love how Kirk turned everything on it's head.  Definitely a keeper.

218 "The Immunity Syndrome"
A rather long-feeling episode.  I wasn't really in the mood when I watched this one (although, normally the episodes suck me in anyways) and was disappointed.

Star Trek Update (5)

The Apple (205)
This was a morally challenging episode that really leaves you thinking.  Honestly, that's one of my favorite things about this show.

The Doomsday Machine (206)
Interesting concept that I feel has been really common in modern times.

Catspaw (207)
This was a fun episode.  Witches (that are really aliens)!  The special effects in the end, however, are rather... hokey.

I, Mudd (208)
I love it when a show brings characters back and Mudd was a joy to see again.  We get those android-humans, too.  Somehow I feel that we may be headed in that direction ourselves... Just kidding.

Metamorphosis (209)
This was a sweet episode.  You ooh and ahh at the end and feel completely satisfied.  Plus, time travel-ish elements are involved.

Journey to Babel (210)
Hilarious episode.  I found myself laughing at Spock's obvious distress.  Also, I met my favorite aliens in this one!  I must admit, I don't know they're name, but it's the blue ones with the antenna's.  So cool.

Friday's Child (211)
This was an interesting civilization.  I liked the idea behind them and thought the characters were good.  Plus, you know I love to see Bones more involved with the stories!

Star Trek Update (4)

I just started season two and I like the opening credits much better now.  They're cleaned up and they finally give DeForest Kelley (Bones) the credit he deserves.

201 "Amok Time"
Definitely ***** (5 Stars) for it's ending alone.  I was giggling and shrieking like a little girl.  Also, this episode actually brings us to Spock's homeland.

202 "Who Mourns for Adonais?"
Interesting episode.  I liked the Greek mythology (something I study independently).  I'll give it ****.

203 "The Changeling"
This was a kind of cutesy episode but I loved Kirk during it.  "It thinks I'm it's mother," (Shatner).  I laughed so hard at the ending.  *****

204 "Mirror, Mirror"
One of my favorite episodes.  Ever.  I love this sort of parallel universe thing (time travel is just as great).  ***** without a doubt.

Star Trek Update (3)

So I've finished season one.  Yay!  I really, really enjoyed it.  So far, I must say, my favorite character is Jim, of course.  I'll just touch on my favorites since the last time I posted an update.

A word of advice: when I label episode numbers the first set of numbers is always the season and the second set of numbers is the episode.  For example, Episode #115 is not one-hundred-fifteen but season one episode fifteen.

116 The Galileo Seven
This one had my nerves on end and I was terrified for the characters the whole time.  I almost didn't think they'd make it out.

119 Tomorrow is Yesterday
Undoubtedly, this is my one of my favorite episodes.  I love time travel, it's amazing, and seeing characters so out of their elements is always fun.

120 Court Martial
This one had an air of mystery to it which I appreciated.  It kept me guessing and I was very worried.

122 Space Speed
Who would I be if I didn't mention this episode?  The notorious Khan is introduced here and is one of my favorite villains.

128 The City on the Edge of Forever
My favorite episode of the season.  It was heartbreaking and tragic.  Also, it's about time travel (did I mention I loved that?).  Certainly one I would watch again and again.

129 Operation-- Annihilate!
Creepy and icky little monsters!  Rather sad at some parts but also exciting.  Certainly a good season ender.  However, I always prefer cliff-hangers (how terrible am I?).

Star Trek Update (2)

I’m about halfway through season one of TOS and it has me utterly captivated.  There are some parts that really make you shake your head and go really? but at this point I’m so invested I find that I can’t go very long without an episode.  Can anyone else say obsession?  Instead of giving you a run-through of every single episode, here’s a highlight of my favorite:

It really gives you a good idea of who Kirk is and is the episode that actually made me care.

Sulu running around without a shirt and trying to stab people.  Hilarious.

Having seen the pilot episode the majority of this episode does nothing for me, but the tension between Spock and Kirk had me going (I kid you not, I was saying this out loud a lot) What are you doing, Spock?

Balance of Terror
Episode #114
While Dagger of the Mind is my favorite, this one is a close second.  It kept me captivated and I couldn’t take my eyes off.  It’s also a bit heart-breaking and makes you think about the real world.

*For those of you who don’t know how I number episodes, the first number (in this case the 1) is the season, and the next two (03) is the number within the season

Star Trek Update (1)

My goal this summer is to go through every single season of every single series of Star Trek, start to finish, movies included.

I've seen both of Abram's new movies (OMGosh I loved them!!), and several episodes from varying seasons.  I've grown up in a family of Geeks (only the other day we were debating getting life size Iron Man armor) but I've never sat through the whole series so I figured it was time.  So in these posts I'll be talking about how I feel about each episode I've seen.  You can expect about a post a week, but be warned, because some days I can watch several hours of television (current record is somewhere between 8 and 10 Supernatural episodes).

To start it off, the Pilot of The Original Series, "The Cage":
The pilot is about Capt. Pike, so at first I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy it.  I really just wanted to get to Capt. Kirk and comp., but I watched it anyways.  I liked it.  The story kept me captivated even when the special effects did not.  However, I can appreciate the special effects because they actually weren't crappy, but decently got the job done without to much glitz to them.  They seemed more real life.  As a pilot it gave a pretty good idea of how the show was going to turn out and what was planned.  In the end I give it a 4 out of 5, pilot wise.  Episode wise it probably only gets a 3 out of 5.

Next I watched "The Man Trap":
Finally we get to see Capt. Kirk and comp.!  I found myself immersed in this episode and was waiting for the ending like I would anything else-- both hoping it would come so I could see how it wrapped up and get to the next one, and hoping it wouldn't come so I could spend even more time with these characters.  I give it 3 out of 5.

Finally, this morning I saw "Charlie X":
It had some parallels to the pilot, but gave us more of Jim.  I give this, too, a 3 out of 5.
